TSLC – The Supported Living Consultancy
Foundation Guide

What is supported living?

A practical introduction.

Supported living is a housing-and-support model intended to help people live as independently as possible in their own home while receiving the care or support they need. The accommodation and the care are related, but they are not necessarily provided by the same organisation.

Why that distinction matters

For a property owner, the person living in the accommodation is not necessarily the party taking the commercial lease. Depending on the scheme, the housing arrangement may involve a Registered Provider, Housing Association, care provider or another specialist organisation.

Who may need supported living?

Supported living can serve people with different needs, including learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities and other circumstances requiring care, support or supervision. Property requirements therefore vary significantly.

What makes the property different?

The property has to work operationally as well as commercially. Location, accessibility, bedroom and bathroom provision, floor area, staff space, transport, parking, gardens, communal areas and potential adaptations can all influence suitability.

Where TSLC fits

TSLC sits between the property and provider sides of the opportunity. We help assess property information, understand provider requirements, facilitate introductions and viewings and coordinate progression. We are not the tenant and do not provide care.
